FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about Battery Health, battery estimation, and privacy. Nothing invented.
- How do I install the app?
- Battery Health is available on Google Play. Install it from the listing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.batteryhealth.monitor
- What is battery health?
- Battery health is a measure of how much capacity your battery can hold compared to when it was new. As batteries age through charge cycles, heat, and time, that capacity declines. Battery Health estimates this figure from how your device actually charges.
- How accurate is battery health estimation?
- It's an estimate, not a measurement. Android doesn't expose a single precise health figure. Battery Health infers capacity from charging behavior and labels each result with a confidence level — High, Medium, or Low — so you know how much to trust it.
- Does the app require internet or collect my data?
- No. Battery Health works fully offline for all core features. Your battery data stays on your device — there's no account, no sync, and no server it uploads to.
- Does it require permissions?
- No required permissions. The dashboard works the moment you install it. Live charging monitoring needs notification permission, and per-app drain insights need Usage Access — both optional and granted by you.
- Is there a subscription?
- No subscription. Battery Health is free with thin ads on a few screens, and a one-time Pro upgrade removes ads and unlocks longer history, custom alert thresholds, and unlimited CSV export.
- Which Android versions are supported?
- Android 8.0 (API 26) and above.
- Can Android battery health be measured accurately?
- Not precisely through software alone. Android doesn't expose a factory-fresh capacity figure or an accurate cycle count on most devices. Any app claiming a precise health percentage is estimating — the question is whether it admits that. Battery Health does, and pairs every estimate with a confidence level.
- What does confidence mean?
- Confidence reflects how much reliable data the estimate is built on. A device with a charge-counter chip provides high-confidence readings; a device with limited battery data yields a lower-confidence estimate. The same number with different confidence means different things, and the app shows both.
- Does fast charging damage batteries?
- Fast charging generates more heat, and heat accelerates battery aging over time. Whether that materially shortens lifespan depends on your device, charger, and habits. We cover the nuance in our article on fast charging and battery health.
- Does overnight charging damage batteries?
- Modern devices manage charging to reduce harm from staying at 100%, but spending long periods at full charge can still contribute to gradual capacity loss. Battery Health's charge-level alerts (80%, 90%) help you reduce that dwell time if you choose.
- Does the app drain my battery?
- Battery Health is designed to be light. It reads battery signals that are already available and uses a foreground service only during active charging (with a periodic WorkManager fallback otherwise). It doesn't run continuous background polling that would itself drain your battery.
